MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Steelers held an 8-3 lead over the Miami Dolphins after one quarter of play today at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Steelers took the lead with 5:39 to go when Darrius Heyward-Bey took a flip from Ben Roethlisberger in the backfield on an end-around and zipped 60 yards around right end for a touchdown. He ran over Pro Bowl safety Reshad Jones at the Steelers’ 47, the only man to have a shot at him.
Roethlisberger’s 2-point pass to Le’Veon Bell was good, and the Steelers led 8-3.
The Dolphins scored on their first drive but the Steelers, fourth best in the league at preventing red zone touchdowns, did it again. Miami had a first down at the 16, but managed only four yards from there and Andrew Franks finished it off with a 30-yard field goal and an early 3-0 Miami lead.
The Steelers had a second scoring opportunity in the opening period but, on third down at the Miami 29, Roethlisberger was sacked for a nine-yard loss, driving them out of field goal range.
