Mike Preston on Harbaugh's decision to go for touchdown on 4th and 1

Head coach John Harbaugh is taking some criticism for going for it on a fourth and one at the New York Giants 1-yard line on the first play in the fourth quarter. Actually, I agree with him going for it, but I don’t agree with the play called.

At that point, the Ravens were down 17-13 and gave very little indication they could stop the Giants, so the Ravens had to go for the touchdown. They needed more points than a field goal could provide. But they can’t run running back Terrance West around the left end.

That was a terrible call.

West isn’t an east and west type of runner. A better play would have been to crash him inside the tackles, particularly behind left tackle Alex Lewis, who was the only Ravens offensive lineman getting any push Sunday.
