Outraged neighbors are demanding answers after a Michigan police officer fatally shot a man who authorities say had opened fire early Tuesday.
Cops in Benton Harbor were called to the scene at approximately 2:20 a.m. following a report of someone being held at gunpoint in a house. However, officers who went to the home were told the residents said they weren’t aware of any trouble.
As officers began to leave, a man emerged from the street and fired multiple shots at them. One of the officers fired back at the man, who was later pronounced dead.
The suspect had two guns with him, according to the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety. A man told 24 Hour News 8 that his cousin was shot eight times by cops.
“They gonna keep on killing us,” a neighbor yelled, according to the station.
Approximately 30 people stood at the scene with some yelling “Black Lives Matter,” 24 Hour News 8 reported.
The autopsy is expected to take place on Tuesday. The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
