Men opened fire into park in front of police sergeant: prosecutors

Two men fired semiautomatic weapons toward a crowded park Saturday afternoon in front of an on-duty Chicago police sergeant, prosecutors said.

Milton Bills, 26, Frank Jackson, 24, and Aaron Harris, 22, were ordered held without bail during a bond court hearing Sunday.

Assistant State’s Attorney Elena Gottreich said a police sergeant saw Harris and Jackson exit a vehicle near the 3400 block of West Madison Street, armed with semiautomatic weapons. They shot several rounds in the direction of the park, which was crowded with families and children at the time, she said.

No injuries were reported.

Harris and Jackson got back in the car, which was driven by Bills, and led officers on a high speed chase through West Garfield Park. The pursuit ended in a crash near the 900 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to court records.

Bills was found hiding underneath a car and arrested on suspicion of disobeying traffic stops and aggravated fleeing. Harris was arrested near the 600 block of North Lorel Avenue and Jackson was arrested near the 600 block of North Long Avenue. They were charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm.
