L'Auberge Del Mar rated No. 1 SoCal hotel

L’Auberge Del Mar is the No. 1 hotel in Southern California, according to the latest luxury rankings to be unveiled.

In its 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards, the prestigious high-end travel publication Condé Nast Traveler lauded the 121-room boutique hotel “in the heart of Del Mar” for having “spectacular ocean views that take your breath away.”

It was the first time L’Auberge Del Mar has taken the top spot in any of the categories in the magazine’s annual list.

“We are certainly delighted to be named the number one ‘Top Hotel in Southern California’ by this highly selective group of travelers,” said L’Auberge general manager Terry Buchholz, in a statement. Condé Nast Traveler’s awards, which will appear in the magazine’s November issue, was a nice welcome to Buchholz, who was just named G.M. earlier this month.

With its bounty of luxury properties and resorts, San Diego did well overall in the poll, which surveyed over 300,000 readers, more than double the number who participated in 2015.

In the category of Top 15 Large Cities in the U.S., San Diego ranked No.10, right behind Seattle and ahead of Washington, D.C. New York, Chicago and San Francisco placed 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Perennially hip destinations like Portland, Nashville and Austin made the list but Los Angeles did not.
