Nobody was injured in a Saturday evening fire that caused extensive damage to the House of Robinson Funeral Home in the 1900 block of West 15th Avenue in Gary.
Gary Fire Chief Paul Bradley said the department responded to a call at around 5 p.m. Saturday and arrived to find the structure burning.
“The damage is extensive,” Bradley said.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, which was not known Sunday. There was one body at the funeral home at the time of the fire, but the blaze did not spread to where it was being kept, officials said.
The House of Robinson has operated in Gary for 28 years. In February, former operator Paul A. Robinson, 58, died outside the funeral home after attending a burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Gary.
A representative of the funeral home could not be reached Sunday.
