Foodies rejoice: Brooklyn to get own major food and wine festival

Food doesn’t just feed the Wall Street and tech titans who fuel the city — it is also transforming our urban oasis into a food and wine festival destination.

As New York City’s Wine and Food Festival heated up last weekend, foodies have a new festival on the horizon.

For those who find Food & Wine’s Classic in Aspen in June out of reach, Side Dish can report that the debut Brooklyn Food & Wine festival will happen in February.

The three-day event, spearheaded by Nilou Motamed, the Brooklyn-based editor for the Time . Inc. title, will include two days at Barclays Center on Feb. 17 and 18 — plus a third day of events at borough restaurants hosted by star chefs.

That chef Alex Guarnaschelli is supporting the 3rd annual Dine Out for Heroes, spearheaded by Peter and Penny Glazier with Caroline Hirsch and Andrew Fox, founders of the New York Comedy Festival, and Bob and Lee Woodruff, co-founders of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. Participating restaurants, like Michael Jordan’s The Steak House N.Y.C., Butter and Nobu, pledge to donate $1 per customer served on Veterans Day.
