A driver suspected of running a red light hit and seriously injured a pedestrian who was crossing a street in Encinitas Monday morning, a sheriff’s official said.
The 61-year-old motorist was headed west on Leucadia Boulevard when she allegedly failed to stop and hit a man at Town Center Place about 6:30 a.m., sheriff’s Deputy Michael Power said.
The victim, who was also 61, was walking north across Leucadia and in a crosswalk at the time. He suffered serious injuries to his right leg and was taken to a hospital, Power said.
Deputies do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
