Brook Mueller emerges after Charlie Sheen’s HIV drama

Brooke Mueller disappeared from the public eye with her now-7-year-old twins after her split from Charlie Sheen.

But the willowy blonde, a recovering addict, resurfaced in San Simeon, Calif., at the annual fund-raising weekend for the Hearst Castle attended by Patricia and Anne Hearst, Jay McInerney, Kick Kennedy and Beth Rudin DeWoody.

“I’ve been hiding out,” Mueller told me.

The 39-year-old regained custody of the twins two years ago, and has been living quietly in Park City, Utah, where the boys are riding horses, rock-climbing, skiing and attending public school.

Although it was widely reported that the boys were learning disabled, it turns out the emotional trauma of their family dysfunction had led to misdiagnoses. They are thriving, and one boy has skipped a grade and is in a gifted program.

“I’m bored as hell, but for the kids, this place is fantastic,” Mueller said.

Sheen has been sued by at least 25 women who claim he exposed them to the HIV virus, but Mueller is virus-free.

“I’m fortunate I didn’t get it,” she said. “I’ve been tested more than anyone.”

Mueller is on good terms with her ex, but she’s now living on $25,000 a month, a pittance for a woman who grew up in the lap of luxury in Palm Beach, Fla., with winters in Aspen, Colo., and summers aboard a yacht on the Riviera.

“If I didn’t have family money, the kids and I would be struggling,” she said.

Still, old habits die hard. She flew to California on a private jet with her twins, her nanny, her housekeeper and her dog. The entourage and their luggage was so impressive, “it was comical,”

Mueller says, with a laugh.
