The infamous ‘wardrobe malfunction’ that saw Beyonce’s earring apparently ripped out and her ear bleeding appears to have caused a wave of imitators online.
Within minutes of the accident, after which the singer performed her show with a bleeding left earlobe, #cutforbeyonce was trending on Twitter.
Since then several fans have claimed to mutilate themselves to show respect to their ‘Queen Bey’ – and they’ve posted the pictures to prove it.
Bloody performance: Beyonce lost an earring while performing at the TIDAL X 1015 concert in New York on Friday. Despite her bleeding earlobe she pushed on with her performance
Imitation: Some fans posted images of cut wrists, claiming it was a tribute to the singer, who earned acclaim after performing with her injury
Upsetting: The images were posted with the hashtags #cutforbeyonce and #bleedforbeyonce. It’s not clear how many of the claims were real
The singer suffered the injury during her performance at Saturday’s TIDAL X 1015 show in Brooklyn after one of her earrings was accidentally ripped out.
But while Beyonce merely suffered a small cut on her ear that left a trickle of blood down her neck, some of her fans have performed more severe forms of self-mutilation.
‘If the queen bleeds the hive must unify and leak our blood to restore her spirits. Beyhive we must #CutForBeyonce,’ wrote @chamonille, posting a picture of a wrist with a single cut down it.
Meanwhile @4elix tweeted ‘#CutForBeyoncé we don’t do simple,’ posting a picture of an arm with several new horizontal cuts and what look like scars from earlier mutilations.
She included the official Beyonce account in her post, but there was no reply. The official account only has nine posts, the most recent of which was in April.
Another user, @gagashairyhole posted a picture of a wrist with bloodless but recent-looking cuts on it and wrote: ‘Only a real fan would defend their queen like this.’
And @GagaLovesBey, whose account is full of messages about Beyonce, posted a picture of a man with a severed earlobe, saying ‘I saw Beyoncé cut her ear so I cut my ear #CutForBeyoncé.’
‘Real fan’: This user claimed that only real fans of ‘Queen Bey’ would cut their wrists
Painful: This user claimed to have cut off his earlobe completely as a tribute
It’s not known whether the claims are genuine or faked.
But hundreds of other users appear to be taking the comments seriously, posing messages of horror and disgust.
Other users have parodied the images, such as one person who wrote ‘NO.’ on their arm in ketchup.
The trend appears to have started with a joke by @sbadzmd, who Tweeted during the performance: ‘Cutting my earlobe in half. You won’t get me not being in Formation. #CutForBeyonce.’
Later, another user expanded that to include #bleedforbeyonce.

Parody: Many users parodied the hashtag and those who claimed to cut themselves. Others were concerned about people committing self-harm
